A Western New York favorite — Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat — is ready to take the stage at the glorious and historic Grand Theatre in nearby London, Ontario, from November 24 through January 2. It’s a perfect opportunity to get away and relax a bit during the busy holiday season!

Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this production of Joseph is directed by Susan Ferley.

Legislator Walter Submits Revenue Sharing Plan to Restore Funding for Libraries and Cultural Groups

Erie County Legislator Ray Walter, R,C,I-Clarence/Amherst/Akron, has suggested a revenue sharing plan that would restore funding to the Buffalo and Erie Public Library System without raising taxes or increasing County spending in 2011.

During the Legislature’s Nov. 18 session, Legislator Walter filed a letter that he previously sent to County Executive Chris Collins. In the letter Legislator Walter outlines a plan to appropriate sales tax revenue toward funding for the libraries. According to the Agreement of Sales Tax Revenue Distribution, Erie County must share 64% of 3% of the sales tax revenue collected with municipalities and school districts.

We Want Andy! Annunciation School Holding Food Drive

Students at Annunciation School, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, are collecting nonperishable food items — which will be donated to the Food Bank of WNY — in an attempt to bring Channel 2 Meteorologist Andy Parker and his Weather Machine to the school. Residents and businesses in the community are encouraged to participate by dropping off food items at the school office during school hours, 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 The school donating the most pounds of nonperishable food items by December 7 will be declared the winner. Because Annunciation is a small school, community involvement is extremely important.

Former Buffalo Bills Players Tackle Buffalo City Mission Thanksgiving Community Meal

Earlier today, the Buffalo City Mission tackled its annual Thanksgiving “Community Meal” with support from former Buffalo Bills stars, including Cornerback Booker Edgerson (62’-69’), Quarterback/Wide Receiver Ed Rutkowski (63’-68’), Wide Receiver Lou Piccone (77’-82’), and Defensive Back, Jeffrey Nixon (‘79-‘82).The players teamed up to serve more than 250 people a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The Bills alums also greeted guests, washed dishes, and of course, signed autographs.

Community Health Foundation Awards $300,000 in New Grants to Reduce Fall Injuries

The Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York announced today that it is investing an additional $300,000 to expand the work of its Fall Prevention Collaborative. The new funding will be used to support the development of new community coalitions and initiatives throughout Western and Central New York.  Since 2007, the Foundation has invested more than $600,000 in grants and related projects to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with falls.  According to the New York State Department of Health, falls account for approximately $1.7 billion in annual hospitalization costs.
