Urgent: Pet Connection Needs Your Help!

Do to a manufacturing mix-up, Pet Connection Programs Inc. is in urgent need of reusable grocery-style bags for the Erie County Fair. The bags are then filled with pet supplies and sold to Fairgoers to raise funds for the nonprofit animal shelter in Marilla. Unfortunately, only 200 bags have arrived so far, and they sold out the very first day of the Fair.

Freudig Singers Holding Auditions

BUFFALO, NY-The Freudig Singers of WNY are holding auditions. The group is looking for semi-professional singers or better to join their group.

The singers produce four shows a year. Auditions are Monday, August 16th at 6 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Orchard Park and Wednesday, August 18th at 6 P.M. at St. Joseph University Church in North Buffalo.

Annual Flower Sale Benefits WNY Land Conservancy

ORCHARD PARK, NY-It's time for the annual flower sale  sponsored by the WNY Land Conservancy.

All proceeds from the sale benefit their organization.

Plants available to order for fall landscaping include mums in various colors and a variety of native plants that include false solomon seal, goatsbeard, blue flag iris, and bloodwort.

Deadline to order is September 1st. Orders can be picked up at the Orchard Glen Retirement Community located at 6055 Armor Duells Rd. in Orchard Park on September 11th from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Woman Avoids Jail Time for Embezzlement

BUFFALO, NY-A Chaffee woman was sentenced to five years probation Tuesday for stealing from an Orchard Park nursing home.

Back in May, Mary Blenker, 43, admitted to taking over $13,000 from funds she managed for Absolut Care of Orchard Park.

She is the second former employee to be sentenced for embezzlement.

Last month, Rhonda Skiver, Absolut's former CFO, was sentenced to probation and restitution for her theft of nearly $164,000 for the nursing and rehabilitation facility.

Erie County Recognized as "Storm Ready"

Officials from NOAA’s National Weather Service announced Monday that Erie County has been recognized as “storm ready.” 

The following is information provided by Erie County:

The County had to meet a set of rigorous criteria to receive the designation.  The County’s Emergency Services Department established a 24 hour warning point and emergency operations center, developed numerous ways to receive severe weather forecasts and to alert the public, created a system to monitor local weather conditions and developed a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises. 

County Executive Chris Collins said, “Our Emergency Services Department in Erie County, led by Commissioner Greg Skibitsky, regularly trains for all types of emergency situations and natural disaster responses.  Their impressive response to the October storm of 2006 and the floods in Gowanda last year in August are

ASPCA's $100K Challenge

BUFFALO, NY - This Sunday marks the official start to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals $100K Challenge to Save More Lives.

Back in April, shelter contestants across the country started working tirelessly to save at least 300 hundred more animals than they did over the same three month period in 2009.

The shelter that achieves the greatest increase in lives saved during that three-month period over the last year will receive a $100,000 grant from the ASPCA to continue its life-saving work. A second grant of $25,000 will be awarded to the shelter that does the best job of engaging its community in helping to save more lives.

Delaware North Looking to Hire for the Season

ORCHARD PARK, NY-With the Bills at training camp, it's time to start staffing Ralph Wilson Stadium for the season.

Delaware North Sportservice is planning a job fair for temporary workers for the Stadium.

Over 100 people will be hired as stand attendants, cooks and suite servers during the Buffalo Bills football games.

The job fair will be on Friday, August 6th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Buffalo Employment and Training Center.
