Mary Wilson Talks About Ralph Wilson's Health | News
ORCHARD PARK, NY -- Ralph Wilson just celebrated his 94th birthday last month and Bills officials tell us he's doing well. It's a matter of discussion since the team will be sold when he passes. But as 2 On Your Side heard directly from the wife of the Bills owner at a special event at the Bills complex. And she says he's still going strong.
The questions about Ralph Wilson's health surfaced with a brief hospitalization earlier this year and hip surgery in 2011. The Bills owner was last seen in public in August.
But Mary Wilson told Channel 2's Adam Benigni on Saturday that her husband is determined to keep going.
Mary Wilson said "I'll give you an example, I called Ralph today and he sounded so good. I said 'Honey you do better without me there and he said 'Noooo'. He is doing great. He worked out with his trainer yesterday and the trainer is supposed to come tomorrow. He's got, you know, a lot of equipment at the house where he works out. He's doing great. He's an amazing individual. And he'll probably outlive you."
She says Wilson is passionate about the game and has daily discussions with Bills GM Buddy Nix.
"Ralph wants to talk football every day. And they talk and we have great hopes for the team. And Buddy is incredible and so is Chan. We have a great organization and what we need is some luck...some luck. Ralph's a tough guy. He didn't get to where he is today by being just a nice guy all the time. He wants great things, he wants great things. He's created great things in his life and he wants greatness."
Mary Wilson was herself honored Saturday at the event for the Western New York Girls in Sports program which she started in 2004. She received the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, & Nutrition Community Leadership Award and she's motivated to find and foster female athletes.
"I would like for them to have more opportunities for them to play sports because sports impact you in so many ways that nothing else can."
