Daemen Establishes Historic Partnership With The Park School

Daemen College has established an historic new partnership with The Park School of Buffalo designed to develop collaborative initiatives that will enhance academic, athletic, and community outreach programs at both institutions. This is the first agreement of its kind established between Daemen and a private school in the Buffalo Niagara region in recent history.

A memorandum of understanding for the collaborative agreement was formally signed Feb. 8 by Daemen President Gary A. Olson, Head of School Christopher J. Lauricella of The Park School, and Dr. Michael Brogan, Daemen’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college.

Daemen Athletic Training Program Granted Continued Accreditation

Daemen College’s Professional Master’s Athletic Training Program, one of only two accredited programs in New York State, has received continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The 10-year accreditation is the maximum term available to institutions.

Established in 2008, Daemen’s athletic training program previously received an initial five-year accreditation, which is also the maximum granted for a first-time accredited program.

“Receiving this national accreditation is a testament to our program’s level of excellence and our commitment to the high standards that CAATE represents,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “Our committed faculty provide students an exceptional education and advanced professional preparation that is essential to pursuing a career in the athletic training field.”

Whether you’re putting an addition on your house or simply giving the interior a fresh coat of paint, there’s nothing like the feeling of achievement that comes with the completion of a home improvement project. Now imagine if that completed project also resulted in significant energy savings, putting more cash into your pocket and less pollution into the environment.

Does that sound too good to be true? Well, it’s not. Welcome to the world of solar energy.

Funds for Home Improvement Projects are Currently at Their Peak

Tax season is right around the corner, and many homeowners are waiting to receive their annual refund check before beginning long-awaited home improvement projects such as the installation of new heating and cooling units, energy saving improvements, insulation, air sealing, new windows and more.

Rather than waiting and hoping for a sizable return, consumers could be taking advantage of multiple home improvement grant programs that are currently available to both homeowners and tenants.

“Several grant and funding programs that allow homeowners and tenants to maximize home improvement projects are currently available to all households across Western New York,” said Jim Stroehlein, co-owner of Prime Time Energy Services, 67 Sheldon Ave., Depew. “Everyone qualifies for some amount of assistance, so there’s really no reason to delay a project.”

Rural Outreach Center Serves Multiple Families During Holiday Season

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), an East Aurora-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending rural poverty in southern Erie County and surrounding areas and assisting, empowering and elevating individuals to self-sufficiency, assisted numerous local families throughout the holiday season.

“The Rural Outreach Center invited 51 families and over 90 children to receive donated gifts for Christmas,” said ROC Executive Director Frank Cerny. “Families were selected primarily on their work in setting and working toward personal goals toward self-sufficiency as this is part of the ROC’s model of assisting, empowering and elevating participants.”

More than 70 individuals and organizations helped make this happen by purchasing thousands of dollars in gifts, gift cards and non-food items for distribution. “The community response was overwhelming,” Cerny added.
