Friends of Harmony Offer Singing Valentines

Looking for an affordable and creative alternative to candy, jewelry and flowers for your sweetheart? Surprise them with a gift that they will cherish forever - a Singing Valentine. On February 12th, 13th and 14th, the Friends of Harmony, a local male a Capella chorus, will be sending authentic Barbershop Quartets to personally deliver Singing Valentines to people all over Western NY. The quartets, in full matching costume, will appear at homes, schools, restaurants and places of business to sing two love songs and to present a flower and a personalized Valentine along with a photo with the quartet commemorating the event all for just $45.00.

BPO Performing FREE Concerts In Your Town

BUFFALO, NY - Every summer the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performs FREE outdoor concerts at various parks across Western New York and this year is no exception. 

The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, or even a snack and enjoy the sounds of summer from Buffalo's own Philharmonic Orchestra at no cost.

Below is a list of this summer's free performances:

  • Friday, July 1 at 7:00 p.m. - Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard Park.  Matthew Kraemer, Conductor
  • Saturday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. - Casenovia Park, Buffalo.  Paul Ferington, Conductor
  • Tuesday, July 26 at 7:00 p.m. - Centennial Park, Batavia.  Paul Ferington, Conductor

FREE Panel and Reception: "Developing the Larkin District: Past, Present and Into the Future"

Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society and the Wehle School of Business at Canisius College, in collaboration with the Larkin Development Group, are pleased to present an evening program titled “Developing the Larkin District: Past, Present and Into the Future.” Additional support and sponsorship comes generously from the Darwin Martin House and Western New York Heritage magazine.

This FREE event is open to the public and will take place Wednesday, June 22, 2011, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Carl & Carol Montante Cultural Center on the campus of Canisius College. A reception, also free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to this FREE program featuring expert speakers on Buffalo’s first manufacturing district, the innovative Larkin Company, world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Larkin Administration Building, and the future of this historic district in the twenty-first century.

Andrew Gramza Memorial Drive to be Held Saturday

Calling all blood donors to the Andrew Gramza Memorial Drive! Alden resident, Andrew Gramza, 21, passed away last November. He required a lot of blood while in the hospital, and when he passed away, his family donated his heart valves to UNYTS (Upstate New York Transplant Services). What better way to honor him than with a blood drive/basket raffle with all proceeds benefiting UNYTS?

Take part in this Memorial Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Alden High School, 13190 Park St. To schedule an appointment  to donate blood, please call UNYTS at 716-512-7940. Walk ins are also welcome.  A basket raffle will be held with all the proceeds going directly to UNYTS.  A variety of baskets, with some valued at over $100, will be available.
