Elm Street Bakery is Worth the Drive

Elm Street Bakery is Worth the Drive

Alli and I really really love East Aurora….there I said it.  As city residents there’s an unnecessary shame in admitting that you really like the suburbs, or at least certain aspects of the suburbs.  No, were not planning on settling down and having 2.5 kids, but the small village of East Aurora is incredibly cozy with several restaurants and shops that we really enjoy, add bars within walking distance and we’re sold.  This last Saturday was our second visit to Elm Street Bakery, the first was an impromptu visit based on curiosity after hearing all the buzz about the place.  Unfortunately, we had dinner plans later in the day, so we limited our first trip to just two slices of their wood fire pizza but promised that we’d return the following week.  After we finished our second meal there this weekend, Alli and I realized we have found a new favorite place to eat.

Brick Oven Bistro & Deli Ready to Celebrate First St. Patrick’s Day

Where will you be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year? How about visiting the city’s newest restaurant in the heart of Buffalo’s Irish District?

Since opening its doors on February 13, the Brick Oven Bistro & Deli at 904 Abbott Road in South Buffalo has quickly become a neighborhood favorite for many reasons, one being the restaurant’s unique assortment of bottled and draft beer. In addition to the standards, customers are greeted by a wide variety of unique microbrews and even some tasty local selections.

Walden Galleria to Host "Red Cross Night"

Walden Galleria to Host "Red Cross Night"

March is Red Cross Month, and Walden Galleria is supporting the local Chapter through “Red Cross Night” this Wednesday, March 7th. From 5pm until closing time, three Walden Galleria restaurants-Bravo, Gordon Biersch and The Melting Pot-will donate 10% of every customer’s bill to the American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties.

“We are so grateful to Walden Galleria for supporting our mission of preventing, preparing for and responding to disaster here in Western New York,” said Emily Shafer, American Red Cross Development Associate. “The best part of this event is that customers can support the Red Cross by doing nothing more than enjoying a great meal with their friends or family on Wednesday evening.”

Brick Oven Bistro & Deli, offering a unique mix of artisan brick oven pizzas, delicious entrees served in new and exciting ways, gourmet deli sandwiches and much more, is set to open at 3 p.m. Monday, February 13. South Buffalo’s newest restaurant is located at 910 Abbott Road and breathes new life into a former neighborhood market that stood vacant for several years.

The behind-the-scenes team that has been busy creating this new eatery includes South Buffalo natives Charlie Goodspeed and John Glavey, with Goodspeed bringing more than 30 years of restaurant experience to the table. Overseeing the kitchen is Boston, N.Y., native Andrew Murtha. Chef Murtha built his fine dining resumé in both Buffalo and Philadelphia.

Keep Warm with Nelson's Ridge Hotcakes this Winter

Keep Warm with Nelson's Ridge Hotcakes this Winter

Last weekend I was pretty excited that Alli and I managed to eat the majority of our meals in the South Buffalo area. We picked up some food from English Pork Pie Company, stopped by Nine Eleven for some delicious Chicken Wings (arguably the best in Buffalo) and started our Saturday off with some breakfast at the recently opened Nelson’s Ridge.

Swirls Cupcakery Is a Hidden Gem

Swirls Cupcakery Is a Hidden Gem

Our cupcake consumption has really increased in the last two months.  With the opening of 3 new cupcake boutiques (two in the southtowns!) we’ve really stepped up our cupcake game.  Alli and I have wanted to visit Swirls Cupcakery for a long time now but because of work we couldn’t make it down during the week (they are only open until 5 on weekdays and 8 on Fridays and Saturdays) and our weekends have been really busy.  But last weekend we made a point to schedule a drive and finally sample their cupcakes.
