The Annunciation Strong Start Early Learning Academy’s new “Mommy and Me” program will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7580 Clinton St., Elma. The program takes place in Annunciation’s former school building.

A new learning opportunity for children 18 months to 3 years old, “Mommy and Me” classes will begin on Monday, Sept. 21, and continue from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays. The “Mommy and Me” program is a wonderful place to encourage your child’s development through play and socialization. You and your child will also have the opportunity to read, play and learn together through Circle Time, Story Time, Music and Movement and Open Play Time.

Armed Services Committee Member to Address National Security at Daemen Lecture

Congressman Chris Gibson of New York, an Iraq War veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, will discuss the Middle East and other national security issues at the Daemen College Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series event at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.

In his lecture, Gibson will address national security policy issues facing the U.S. Congress and the nation. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested by emailing officeofthepresident@daemen.edu.

At age 17, Gibson enlisted in the New York National Guard and later earned an ROTC commission at Siena College. He went on to complete a 24-year Army career, rising to the rank of colonel and was deployed seven times, including four combat tours to Iraq, deployments to Kosovo and Haiti, and deployment to the U.S.-Mexico border region to participate in counterdrug operations.

A new learning opportunity for children 18 months to 3 years old will be offered by the Annunciation Strong Start Early Learning Academy in Elma beginning Sept. 21. The “Mommy and Me” program is a wonderful place to encourage your child’s development through play and socialization. You and your child will also have the opportunity to read, play and learn together through Circle Time, Story Time, Music and Movement and Open Play Time. 

“Mommy and Me” will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 21. The cost is $10 per child per session or five classes for $45. A preview and informational orientation will be offered at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. For more information or to register, please call 681-1327.

New Canonical Administrator Assigned to Mary Queen of Angels School

 

Most Reverend Richard Malone, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, has appointed Father Jeffrey Nowak to the position of canonical administrator at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga. Father Nowak takes over for Msgr. Kevin O’Neill, who retired as canonical administrator following the 2014-15 school year.

Father Nowak was also recently appointed parochial vicar of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Niagara Falls, and continues to celebrate the Tridentine Latin Mass for the Diocese of Buffalo at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Cheektowaga. He previously served as parochial vicar at St. John Vianney parish in Orchard Park.

Pre-K Program at Annunciation to Host Open House

 

The Strong Start Early Learning Academy at the Church of the Annunciation will host an open house event to showcase its expanding Pre-K program from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma.

For the 2015-16 school year, Annunciation will offer Pre-K3 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Pre-K4/5 program will expand and be offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Also in 2015-16, the program will offer before- and after-school options with drop-off beginning at 7:30 a.m. weekdays, a “lunch bunch” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a “Mommy & Me” program.

Daemen Athletic Training Graduates Earn 100 Percent Pass Rate on National Exam

Daemen College’s 2015 athletic training graduates have achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification exam, a rate that significantly surpasses the national average of 81 percent.

“We are proud of our newest athletic training graduates for attaining such a notable pass rate on this rigorous national certification exam, an achievement that’s a testament to the caliber of our students and the quality of excellence of our athletic training program,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson.
