Dog Ears Bookstore to Host Author of ‘The Allentown Murders’

 

Michael J. Maccalupo, author of The Allentown Murders, will take part in a reading and book-signing event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

Set in the City of Buffalo, The Allentown Murders finds four unlikely heroes facing a possible serial killer as they search for clues to the murder of a loved one. The spirits of a little girl and a murdered friend attempt to warn our heroes of impending danger – or are they?

Maccalupo is the author of three other fiction books, including Where the Road Begins, Murder at Ravenswood Hall and The Almost Definitive Collection vol. 1.

East Aurora Readies for 45th Annual Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale

 

One of East Aurora’s most popular annual events — the Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale — returns on Saturday, July 26, and will feature more than 100 vendors, special guests and numerous fun-filled family activities. Now in its 45th year, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Main Street.

Doug Allen, national anthem singer for the Buffalo Sabres, will be joined by the American Legion Post #362 Color Guard to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at 9:45 a.m. Chalk Walk Murals, sponsored by the Town of Aurora Recreation Department, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the award-winning Rince Na Tiarna Irish dancers will perform at 10:30 a.m. Unyts will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Timeless,” a members’ group show featuring the work of more than 30 local artists, will highlight a busy month at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, located at 1168 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca. The exhibit opening will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 13, and will also offer live music by Dana Misenheimer and refreshments.

Kicking off June’s schedule of art classes will be watercolor classes with artist Lynn Jay. Held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday mornings, June 9, 16, 23 and 30, the cost is $80 per participant.

Activities for the enjoyment of the entire community are planned in the coming days and weeks at Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, located at 1168 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca.

From 6 to 9 p.m. May 2 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3, the gallery will host a Jewelry Trunk Show featuring items by Xtal Feather. Wonderful items for Mother’s Day will be offered, and light refreshments will be served.

Winter Market at Horsefeathers Continues on April 12

 

The popular Winter Market at Horsefeathers will continue its successful run on Saturday, April 12 — a run that will last just four more Saturdays! The indoor market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through May 3 and occupies portions of the first floor and lower level of the Horsefeathers Market & Residences, located at 346 Connecticut St. on Buffalo’s West Side. 

Recently joining the market through the end of the season is Dan Tower Farm. Occupying the community group table this week will be representatives from Earth Spirit Educational Services.

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s new farmers’ market that will take place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings beginning May 15, has reached an exclusive sponsorship agreement with a town-based organization for the 2014 season.

Sponsoring the market, to take place on the grassy hill at Union Road and Main Street, will be the Western New York Federal Credit Union.
