Baseball Academy Adds Coaches, Offering Special Lesson Package and Hosting Tryouts

Attention baseball and softball players! The Baseball Academy of WNY, located at New Era Park, 4817 Lake Ave., Blasdell, has added two new instructors for its fall and winter schedule. The additions include Joe Mamott, a former professional pitcher with the Boston Red Sox, and Charlie Karstedt, a four-year player at the University at Buffalo.

The Academy is also offering a lesson package special on all regularly priced 10 packs. Anyone purchasing a 10-pack of private lessons by October 31 will be given one free lesson. Eleven lessons for the price of 10 — a $32 value!

Mention the sport of Orienteering to most people, and you'll most likely draw a blank stare. Although the sport is huge in Europe, particularly the Nordic countries, it is little known in the United States.

In western New York, the Buffalo Orienteering Club has a small but growing membership, and Rochester has one of the largest clubs in the country.The object of Orienteering is simple, yet the skill required can be quite complex. Using only a map and a compass, competitors navigate a variety of terrain in search of markers hidden along the way....sort of a "treasure hunt" in the woods.
