Audubon Nature Center Supports Fall Regional Bird Count

Audubon Nature Center Supports Fall Regional Bird Count

Jamestown, NY – The Audubon Nature Center supports the Buffalo Ornithological Society’s (BOS) ambitious effort every fall to count birds in Western New York.

Whether watching on their own property or committing to a larger area, it takes many people -- beginning to advanced birders -- to cover the four-county territory that is counted.

If you have experience in bird counting, you can be part of this important work by volunteering on Saturday October 8.  If you’re interested but inexperienced, you could observe others and learn for future counts.

The BOS count has been held every second Saturday in October since 1939.  The date was chosen to coincide with the end of the fall migration.

Grisanti Repair Program For Pesticide Containers Signed Into Law By Governor

Grisanti Repair Program For Pesticide Containers Signed Into Law By Governor

Senator Mark Grisanti (R-60) today announced that  Governor Cuomo has signed into law Grisanti’s legislation which extends for two years the provision of the environmental conservation law that allows merchants in the State of New York to implement a “minor repair program” for damaged pesticide containers and lawn fertilizers containing pesticides.  This act will bring New York State in line with the national program implemented by the EPA in 2009 to address concerns of the unnecessary disposal of consumer pesticide products such as lawn fertilizers.

The EPA noted that approximately five million pounds of consumer pesticide products may become waste each year due to damage to the containers before being sold by retailers. With this provision allowing for minor repairs, retailers will minimize waste and prevent additional pollution.

Work Your Spirit and Stretch Your Soul at Healing Waters

Work Your Spirit and Stretch Your Soul at Healing Waters

On Saturday morning, I opened my eyes to the early sunlight, stretched my arms, my legs, and my back – waited for the cracks to ripple through my joints in all the tight places, and then got out of bed to greet the day. I put on a comfortable cotton shirt and my favorite yoga pants, found my flip flops, and packed my yoga mat into my Corolla. With the radio on, I backed out my driveway, and danced in my seat to Marron 5’s “Good Life” as my Corolla and I cruised through the open back roads of the Southtowns to the Healing Waters Yoga Studio in East Aurora.
